With 12 episodes to watch, this series leaves very little to the imagination. When looking at the most important period of time for Christians in the history of the world, this series really brings it home. The international cast provides such a broad spectrum of culture and ethnicity, much like described in the teachings found in the Bible and other literature current to the time period following the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. The authenticity of the surrounding area where filming took place is like stepping back in time with the characters, living their story all over again.
The story picks up right where The Epic series “The Bible” left off, and the intensity grows with each episode. Executive producers Roma Downy and Mark Burnett have really brought to life the emotion, hardship and spiritual lives of those who knew Jesus and followed Him, eventually building His church. The Roman rule of the time was a bloody and harsh one, portrayed deeply here. Politics were much different in this time, with the fight for the Holy Land in full swing. The interaction between the big players such as Caiaphas, Pontius Pilate, the Zealots, Herod and the Apostles is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.
When you purchase this Blu-ray or DVD, you get a great look into the characters, the actors who portray them and a behind the scenes view only available here. Between the casting of characters, the huge undertaking of costumes and the enormous job of getting the set “just right”, there is much more than the 12 episodes to learn from. Transforming these modern day places and people into a back-in-time story that will at times leaves you breathless was quite the undertaking.
In an exclusive interview with the executive producers, we learn what processes were used to bring this epic journey of hope alive and to your living room. The differences between this series and the Bible series and why they decided to produce this one a little differently than the first are also discussed. The behind the scenes tour includes a peek at Pilate’s Palace, the streets of Jerusalem and the safe house, The Temple exterior and Plaza, and a tour of the streets.
